Meet Angelina Scott, Singer, Songwriter, and Makeup Artist

Angelina, your Humble Takeover is your story. Although one post could not tell your whole story, we are glad to highlight a few of your Great efforts.Tell the family where you started and how you got to where you are today.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”

My name is Angelina Scott. I am a singer, songwriter, makeup artist and sometimes consider myself a life coach. I  discovered my gift of singing at the early age of 2. I am from a small country town called Maringouin, La. I grew up singing in the church choir with my parents by my side. In 2007, I decided to pursue my singing career by attending Southern University and A&M College as a Music Major. Although the journey was not easy, I managed to meet a lot of amazing people, travel to a lot of different cities, and also perform in huge venues. Most of the people I met while attending Southern University are now my best friends. During college I experienced: the loss of my father, I was evicted from two apartments, even homeless at one point. I struggled trying to make ends meet all of the time, BUT GOD!

God brought me through it all and I am forever grateful. When I was 11 years old I used to go in my room and write music and as I got older I realized I was a songwriter. My parents used to tell me that I had a way with words and could make anyone feel my emotion. As a kid I always played in makeup but around 2013 I discovered a passion for it. I would always watch YouTube videos trying to learn how to do a wing liner, put on lashes and make my makeup look flawless. I thought it was because I was just a girly girl but  I realized that make up can really make someone feel so beautiful.

I started experimenting on my friends and realized that I was getting clients. My clients would cry after their session because they felt so beautiful which made me take doing makeup more serious. Since then, I have worked at Essence Festival and have been recognized by top makeup brands. One day soon I pray that I am able to be an ambassador of those same makeup brands. My current venture is to take a leap of faith and start using all of my gifts and talents to make a difference in the world.

Which chapter in your story inspired you to start this venture?

The chapter in my life that has inspired me to take on my current ventures would have to be from 2012 to 2017. These were the years I struggled the most whether it was: financial, mental, emotional or just being a woman growing up without her dad on her side. My dad was my best friend. He took sick in 2011 and passed away in 2015 from a stroke and a kidney infection. It hurt me so bad because I wanted my dad to: be at my graduation, walk me down the aisle when I got married and honestly just be there like he had always been my entire life. Between those years I really learned how to be strong. I realize that I could do all things through Christ which strengthens me and I never gave up because my dad always taught me to have faith no matter how bad the situation looked.

What keeps you Humble through your success and failure in Life?

The things that keep me humble through my success and failures in life would have to be realizing that I have been at my lowest points of life and God never left me. God showed me that I was a humble person. I have always been a sweet, loving and giving person, so staying humble to me means being thankful for my father, who is in heaven, because things could have been worse. God is so big but he took the time to care about little old me, I will always be humble because of that. God allowed me to get to the other side of the storm.

What advice would you offer our family who is writing their own story?

Realize that every journey is different. The things that you experience in life may not always make sense but you have to remember that God has a purpose in your life and your journey will help someone else and you will make it to the other side if you do not give up.

Do you have any upcoming events or projects you would like to share?

I have been working on my music EP for a few years now and before this year is over I will be releasing my first vulnerable EP. I have a YouTube channel as well where I sing and do makeup. I will be uploading videos very soon, fingers crossed on that.

We’d love to hear more stories, can you suggest other persons writing their own story and Conquering the World?

 Definitely,

Justin Rendell, @justinrendell
