Meet Jawara Brown | Entrepreneur and Graphic Design Specialist

What’s a quote that fuels your passion?
“You don’t have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great.”

 -Les Brown

Jawara, your Humble Takeover is your story. Although one post could not tell your whole story, we are glad to highlight a few of your Great efforts. Tell the family where you started and how you got to where you are today.

I recently knocked out one of my goals by starting a t-shirt business, creating some designs and setting up an online platform to sell on. I created a collection called “They Love The Culture” which can be purchased via JAYBROWNDESIGNS-MERCH, an online store and offspring of my small graphic design business, JAYBROWNDESIGNS, LLC, that’s dedicated to uplifting, motivating and inspiring others through positive messaging. I am really big on quotes and encouragement. I think it’s necessary when it comes to combating fear and doubt or just needing positive reinforcement to get started on your goals.

Which chapter in your story inspired you to start this venture?

Graphic design has been my thing while in school leading up to now.I was naturally drawn to my craft and people had always told me that I did good work. I joined a media team called DaEdge1productions during my sophomore year at Southern University and A & M College that enabled me to gain a lot of experience with media, whether that was taking photos of students during Pretty Wednesdays, filming football games and pageants on campus, or being in position for Spring Fest to set up and capture footage of the concert. I eventually took a liking to graphic design the most. Once Garrett (founder of DaEdge1productions, LLC) gave us Photoshop, I started making flyers on campus which led to more campaign & graphic design positions. Years later, in September of 2017, I decided to make it a business.

What keeps you Humble through your success and failure in Life?

God keeps me humble. No matter where or what. I’ve always looked to my faith because I have been in some unorthodox situations or just situations where things cut close and God made a way for me. I hold on to those moments in life for motivation to keep going. And I have learned to be patient with life and accept that I am not perfect and there will always be failure or a bump in the road. It is life. It is just what we do with failure that matters. “Can’t let it consume you nor be defeated by it.” Understand that there is always something you can learn and you are not too good for failure. Having faith, an open mind, understanding that I am not perfect and being willing to learn from my mistakes  keeps me humble through success and failure in life.

What advice would you offer our family who is writing their own story?

“Take your gift and whatever you are passionate about seriously. It is really up to you to cultivate it. Others may see it but It becomes real when it is real to you. So stop putting it off and thinking about what you don’t have or how it looks and take that leap of faith. Your gift will provide for you. You just need to start. And there’s no perfect place or time for that. Do it, scared.”
